What makes Cat Support Network unique?
Contra Costa County has a lot of organizations helping cats. However, in 2010 CSN was created to fill a niche that no other cat rescue organization occupies. We approach the overpopulation problem holistically– preventing births.
- First and foremost CSN is a full-service, hands-on spay and neuter group.
- CSN volunteers spay cats every day of the week. In 2011 CSN altered over 1,400 cats and kittens.
- CSN assists feral cats, homeless cats, stray and pet cats - no discrimination on what cats or people we help.
- CSN covers the cost when no one else can. A lack of money does not prevent the cat from being fixed.
- CSN provides hands-on support. We provide assistance at every level to get the cats fixed.
- Our CSN volunteers provide essential services for low-income families including pick-up and drop-off of cats at the vet office for surgery, providing carriers to transport the cats, and caring for cats after surgery until they can be returned to their area.
- CSN’s rules of the road make us very successful and unique among rescue groups.
- It is all about the cats, not lifestyles or the life choices of anyone we are helping.
- The project is not done until all cats are fixed. Never leave any cat unaltered.
- If CSN finds kittens, there has to be a mama. Find her and spay her. Do not take kittens and leave.
- CSN does not euthanize healthy cats or take cats to the county shelter. We stay busy with people who are willing to feed the homeless cats.
